Compendium Midlands Road Race
Sunday 16th February 2020 – Michaelhouse School, KZN
This unique race, brought to you by the Burg Wheelers Cycling Club, and sponsored by Compendium Insurance Brokers,
offers two distances, to cater for a range of age groups and fitness levels. It follows out-and-back routes from and to
Michaelhouse School, an ideal location whence entrants/ families can enjoy the Midlands Meander. Just three weeks
before the Cape Town Cycle Tour, it is ideal to test fitness levels and hone those all-important bunch-riding skills.
Entry and Registration

Entry fees are: 80km: R320 per rider Early bird: R270 (before 31 December 2019)
50km: R280 Early bird: R230 (before 31 December 2019)
Entries will be accepted at Registration (04h00-06h00) at the Michaelhouse Sports Centre, at a surcharge of R60
Race day entrants will be seeded until 05:30. Cyclists not registered with CSA will need to buy a day licence (R35) at Registration
Prize money
Our prize money totals R18000. Prize money will be paid in each age category as per the table below and based on the UCI
age chart. If there are 5 or less riders per category there will only be a prize for the winner. Trophies will be presented to the
Overall Winners and Prize Giving will commence at 10:30am, followed by the distribution of amazing Lucky Draw prizes.
Cyclists have to be present to claim their prize!!
Timing
Timing will be done by Finish Time using timing chips which will be on your race number a given to you at Registration.
Rules
The event is held under the rules and regulations of Cycling South Africa and Cycling KZN, the details of which can be found on
the CSA website. Entrants should familiarize themselves with these rules and regulations. There is NO road closure, so be
aware of traffic and keep to the left of the middle line at all times. If you cross the middle line you will be disqualified. Much
has been done to make this a safe race and so entrants’ co-operation is requested. Follow marshalls’ and traffic officials’
directions. Entrants are urged to download the MYSOS app; to ensure prompt medical attention where it is needed.
Routes
The 80km route (1200m of climbing) heads, from the Michaelhouse main gate, south, down the R103 past Piggly Wiggly, past
the Dargle/ Impendle turn-off, does a U-turn at the R103 T-junction adjacent to the Lions River N3 intersection (No 103),
before heading back up the R103, turn left for Dargle/ Impendle, does a U-turn to the end of the tar, returning to the
Michaelhouse start/ finish. Note: entrants not making the cut-off on the return-run at the Dargle turnoff will be directed to
return directly to the start/ finish (i.e. a total distance of 50km).

The 50km route (600m of climbing) follows that of the 80km
route, without turning onto the Dargle Road. Water Tables will be provided on the return route. An aQuelle drink and a
Compendium water bottle will be provided to each finisher.

this event, against any loss, injury, accident or damage which such persons might sustain.
